1. I live in an apartment and I can
I always hear my neighbors above me and beside me.
Why: I believe this bug occurs because the walls separating the apartments are thin, and the apartments are directly beside one another.
2. I have a lot of plants at my apartment in Gainesville, I typically have to bring them with me when I leave for a long time.
Why: I believe this bug occurs because when I do leave no one or thing can water them.
3. I like to online shop a lot, but I hate it when I have to return something because it is broken or doesn't fit.
Why: I think this bug exists because I see returning an item as a lot of extra work so in the end, I just keep the purchase.
4. It really bugs me when I park my car really for from the shopping cart return area, or a store doesn't have one.
Why: The bug exists because many other people and I are sometimes too lazy to even do simple things.
5. I really hate how hard it is to find parking, especially free parking in the larger cities. (especially down-town Gainesville)
Why: This bug most likely occurs because the city sees parking fees as a form of income, and the garages help with the limited amount of space.
6. I own a SodaStream, and the carbon dioxide tank does not last exceptionally long. Therefore, I have to buy a lot.
Why: This bug occurs because there may not be enough gas in the small container and once it is opened it doesn't hold it very well.
7. During lunch rush hour, the Fazoli's in my hometown makes a lot of mistakes. For example, I order a spaghetti and meatball bowl and just received plain pasta, no sauce. Other friends and family have had similar problems.
Why: This bug probably occurs because the Fazoli's is still relatively new and is understaffed.
8. I bought a new vacuum recently and it doesn't vacuum on the carpet thoroughly.
Why: This annoyance occurs because there is no dial to change the level of the vacuum.
9. I recently had my hair dyed purple; it was supposed to come out after a few washes. It did not. So for months, I walked around with purple hair, and my parents weren't too happy.
Why: I believe this bug occurs because the walls separating the apartments are thin, and the apartments are directly beside one another.

9. I recently had my hair dyed purple; it was supposed to come out after a few washes. It did not. So for months, I walked around with purple hair, and my parents weren't too happy.
Why: This issue occurred because I wasn't appropriately educated about different types of dyes.
10. I recently had my car serviced at a
dealership in my hometown. I had to bring it back two more times because there
were issues with the area that was supposed to be fixed.
Why: This
bug occurred because Georgia and other surrounding states were opening back up
during the pandemic, and more people were out. This led to an increase in people
wanting their car to be serviced.
11. My mom's parked car was recently hit by a
pickup truck. She has had to go back and forth with the other person's
insurance to get all of her expenses paid off, they are still refusing
to pay the full amount.
Why: This bug has occurred because the insurance
for the pickup driver believes that my mom's costs were not as expensive as
she claimed.
12. My dentist and eye-doctor appointments
need to be scheduled for later in the year, but it has been challenging to
get in touch with the offices. When you call them, they say to make an
appointment online. When you go to the website, it means to call them.
Why: This bug has occurred because the pandemic
has shut down these offices, causing a lot of patients to change their appointments.
The office probably wasn't prepared for the increased number of calls.
13. At the end of the spring semester, I had
to return my textbooks to the library through the mail. I had to make sure that my
books arrived on time before I got hit with late fees.
Why: This bug occurred because of the pandemic.
The University of Florida is closed and therefore can't open the bookstore for
drop-offs.
14. When I wash my clothes, the detergent
sometimes leaves stains on my clean clothes.
Why: This bug occurs because the washing machine I
own makes it difficult to properly dilute to the product.
15. The Wendy's drive-thru speakers in my
hometown hasn't worked very well in years, so you can't really understand the
workers and they can't understand you.
Why: This bug has probably occurred because the
owners have not found the time to fix the speakers.
16. The country I come from; recycling is
required by the law. In my hometown, it is sometimes tough to recycle
correctly.
Why: This bug has occurred because there aren't
any resources being provided to make recycling easier.
17. Medicine for my cornea abrasion was
expensive even after insurance.
Why: My medicine could have been costly
through "price-gauging."
18. When I went to the hospital for my eye
abrasion, it took a really long time before I saw someone. (This was before the pandemic)
Why: This is due to the fact the hospital and
doctors usually have more than one patient or issue that they have to deal
with.
19. When I first moved into my apartment,
paint splatters were everywhere. On my fridge, floor, windows, ledges, and
countertops. I had to scrub the paint off.
Why: This bug occurred because the maintenance
workers had many apartments to paint and, therefore, probably sprayed the paint
as quickly as possible.
20. Recently, I've had issues where I
purchase a piece of clothing, and after one wear or wash, it has holes or is
ruined.
Why: This bug is because the stores I purchase
from like to mass-produce and find the cheapest materials to keep their costs
low.
Reflection:
At first, it was relatively hard to come up
with things that bugged me. I felt extraordinarily pessimistic and weird when thinking of things that
bothered me or were of a nuisance to my family. Overall, it felt really
unnatural. It was also tricky because I am currently still
self-quarantining, most of my "bugs" were from my past experiences or came from
being confined in my apartment. It may have been easier to notice more bugs if
I went outside more. However, once I started to look out for my or my family's
unmet needs, it began to come a little easier. Another thing that worried me was that some
of the things that bugged me were either super specific or no other person
really cared about it but me. But again once, I started looking out for unmet
needs, it became more comfortable for me to discern what was extremely nitpicky and what was
actually an unmet need of mine or others.
Hello Taylor, your list was very personalized, which made it stand out. I feel that when reading through bug lists, everyone had somewhat of a similar theme, but yours were quite different. I totally agree with you that being in quarantine made it significantly harder to come up with bugs, especially because we weren’t exposed to new things or places. I also struggled to come up with bugs at first as I am not a fan of complaining but felt that once I got the hang of it, it became easier and easier.
ReplyDeleteHi Taylor,
ReplyDeleteI agree with Erick. Your list wasn't like everyone else's. I feel like you took me through a regular day for you! Starting the day in your apartment, looking for parking at school, lunch at Wendy's, eye appointment in the afternoon, then car repair shop, dinner at Fazoli's, then back to the apartment to wash clothes and try to get the purple hair die out:). My list should have been more personal.
Hey Taylor,
ReplyDeleteAll of the content on your list is very personalized, which is a good thing. Who knows more about your everyday problems than you do. Because of this, you are the ideal person to consult in order to look for an effective solution. This is key to the next step in the entrepreneurial process, finding the ideal solution. You know the best solutions and the features for your own problems. I share the same grievance in terms of #2 and #5.
